Not much been happening lately. I’m stuck at work yet again. :-P

I do want to mention thought; now that I have the site up an running pretty much as I want it, I’ll be adding quite a few pictures in the next couple of weeks. I have so many that I’d like to post. It may be slow going as I’ve got a few other projects in the background, but I should have quite a few up before the months end.

Where’s the Mud?

Who ever heard of a Mud Bog without the mud? I ended up being out at the Hopkins County Fairgrounds tonight for the Mud Races. Unfortunately, while they did wet down the track a bit, there really was no mud. A tractor tilled the ground a few times, and a water tanker even wet down the ground a bit, but not a single person got stuck. When I go to a mudding competition, I want to see people not cross the finish line. Not only did everyone cross the finish line, but most of the stock trucks weren’t even dirty. Quite a few of them just had a little dirt on the treads, but none on the sidewalls or anywhere else. In all, while I was glad to be able to help, I was a bit disappointed in the show.

Hard Work and Headaches

What a hard fought day at the fire station today.

Due to some newly acquired land the county has for a new courthouse, Madisonville Fire department has a number of buildings that we can demolish for training.  We had the opportunity to practice breaching concrete block walls, cut through exterior walls with a K-12 & chainsaw, attack basement fires with a piercing nozzle, and ventilate a roof with hand tools.

In all, it was a wonderful class, and I learned quite a few new techniques. However, due to the heat I now have a pounding headache.

Family Outting

We took a trip down to the lake yesterday for little family get together. Kristie’s parents, sisters family, and us all headed out for a picnic and some fun out on the boat. The girls got to tube, and Christian had his first boat ride. In all, it was a rather fun trip.

Whew, Christian is heavy!

We took a bit of time out today to head down to Pennyrile State Resort Park for a short dayhike. We wanted something that wasn’t too long so we could all enjoy ourselves and not all be beat tired at the end. We took the Lake Trail; a relatively short 1 mile loop around the lake.

Even though the trail had been cleared after the ice storm, there was still quite a bit of damage to be seen. Some of the bridges were almost completely washed away, many of the structures were delapidated and in a state of disrepair, and there were still quite a few trees that were encroaching on the trail.

About 3/4 of the way around we stopped at a few picnic tables and had lunch. While it was only peanut butter and some pretzles, they sure tasted good after the walk that we had completed. We all enjoyed having a picnic in the park, and I’m hoping that we can do it more in the future.

Weather wasn’t bad, about 80 F and maybe a bit cooler in the shade. There was a slight breeze which made it much more bearable. However, I must admit I was sweating my butt off by the end of the journey. Part of that is due to the ever present lump that keeps accumulating around my abdomen due to my poor eating habits. Another part could be attributed to the lack of exercise I’ve received in the past few months.

That being said…. I’m pretty sure most of my perspiration came from the contents of my pack. The weight of the pack alone is roughly 3 lbs, extra water was roughly 6 lbs, my safety canister is about 2 lbs for a total of roughly 11 lbs. Not a lot at all, till you add the 23 lbs of dead weight that Christian added to the mix. That took my pack weight to roughly 35 lbs! Thats almost 10 lbs more than my pack weighs for an overnight trip.

In the end though… even though I’m beat tired now, it was all worth it! :-D

Gallery Problems

I broke the photo gallery last night. I was trying to fix a problem with one of my user accounts and deleted everything. I have the pictures back up this morning, but I have to rework the directories and delete a few things.

Learning these little quirks is just one of the problems with rebuilding my system from scratch. However, it’s going well and is already much more stable than my old machine.

EDIT: The Photo Gallery should be up and working as normal now.

Photo Gallery Working

After a lot of testing and troubleshooting I was finally able to get the photo gallery back online. After the reinstall, I lost all the database information associated with the pictures. This includes all the descriptions, summaries, etc.

Gallery3 is in the final stages of development right now. I’m not sure I’m going to keep this current version, so that means I probably won’t update the files or database until I evaluate the new version.

For a look, visit the Photo Gallery link in the menu above.
